I'm sitting here at the library staring at article after article of information I could be putting in my thesis literature review and I'm asking myself, what in the heck did I get myself into??? I'm past crying about it and I almost find it comical of what I agreed to take on!!! It would help if my professors were knowledgeable about my area of research....nope, I decided to pick a topic my professors do not know much about. I feel on my own about this one.
I found the costume I want to be......a ceiling fan! Let me explain. I will have a sign posted on my shirt showing "GO CEILINGS"! I will be getting pom poms and a "We're #1" foam hand......geeky I know, but that is me!
Last night some friends and I came together to practice dance moves. It is a surprise for the Halloween party that is coming at my house so I can't let out the secret of what it is going to be. I'm also wondering what I want to be for Halloween. Any ideas? I was thinking of being a Motab singer with my roommate. Let me know!
Well, for my birthday, I thought I would change it up a little bit this year and plan an overnight kayaking trip. Well, it was quite the experience! It all started when we found out that those that said they were bringing matches didn't. We found this out after we kayaked down the river and set up camp. Chris and Jessica (the people I went with) decided to hike back up stream to the car. Well, easier said than done! I was pretty sure the river diverged and I figured there was no way we would make it back fast. Well we proceeded to pave our way through the woods where there were no paths in sight. You guessed it, cobwebs, burrs, limbs in the face, and lots of prickles. We finally got to a clearing where we hiked through the corn, and then other bushes. We then found the mud and went through that. I finally saw a glimpse of life-there were lights in the distance. I told Jessica and Chris that I was going to knock on someone's door to ask them for matches and forget about getting back to our cars because it just wasn't happening. I finally found a house but it looked shady so I waited for the others to catch up and come with me. No answer. We then went to another house. Keep in mind we looked horrible, muddy, burrs all over us, we looked like we were wearing the woods. Well, I nice man gave us 2 boxes of matches! We hiked back through the brush. Our trip took a total of 3 hours! Believe me I was looking forward to chill by the fire! We go back to the beautiful beach was set up on and we found that the river rose and our kayaks were almost taken down stream!! We salvaged the kayaks but lost a paddle! We moved our camp back and started our much anticipated fire. Had some good old fun with hot dogs and s'mores. We were tired so we went to sleep. Well, about 3 am I awoke to a bubble sound. We all immediately jumped up and zipped open the tents as fast as we could to discover we were in about 3 inches of water, which started to surround the tent!!! Yikes! We had to move everything over away from the water. We all tried to go back to sleep, but about 30 mins later I figured I would just check outside. Well, to my surprise, the water was coming our way again!!! The beach was flooding! Chris decided to just sleep in a camping chair, start a fire, and watch the river. Jessica slept in the kayak and I had the tent to myself! Well, I finally felt safe enough to drift off to sleep, but I awoke to Chris saying, "Heidi, uh you better wake up, the water is almost to the tent". I got up and moved the tent yet again... Well we ended up being on a 20 foot island! It was a good laugh. I stayed dry though! We got down the river, however Jess ended up forgetting her keys to her truck so we were stranded until a friend of Chris's picked us up to go get Jess's keys....Oh well, if it ended up any different from the way things were going, I would think it strange! It was an unforgettable #26 birthday bash!
So all this talk about Joe the plumber, Joe the business owner, yadda, yadda, yadda, well I have a Joe friend of my own. This guy is amazing. He is in the Army, just got selected for special forces (which is sooo hard to do) and practices Kung fu and breaks things with his hands and head in his spare time. Well, I made Joe do this (however, it didn't take much convincing because I think he really likes to) and I just can't believe he does this. He literally a mormon machine! Heres to you Joe!
My sister just made it in the Nursing program at BYU-I. She has worked really, really hard, and prayed even harder to get in the second time around!!! Way to go sis!
So I went to Idaho a couple weeks back. It was jam packed with family fun. First, I got spend time with my niece Cambree. one picture is the book gave her for her birthday called "Baby Happy, Baby Sad" (one of Ellia's favorite books), which from a marriage and family therapist's viewpoint, is excellent in helping children identify emotions they are feeling, something we all need to be a little better at. Once they are labeled knowing that it is ok to feel a certain way, they feel better, especially about themselves in that they do not need to hide or suppress feelings just to make others happy.
Jeff and I went three-wheeling. I felt liberated riding three-wheelers. I am usually a four-wheeler girl, but I warmed up to the three-wheelers. The sand dunes were beautiful. The sand funnels exciting along with crazy turns and jumps I have never experienced before. All the riding made me miss the free and empowering feeling that comes while driving powerful machines really, fast! Four-wheeling has always been one of my favorite hobbies!
I also partook what Rexburg had to offer including Craig-Os. Yeah a yummy, pizza restaurant. Thank you family for taking me there! It was a blast hanging out with Keshia and helping to take care of my niece. I love being Auntie Heidi and I love kids! Well here some sweet pics videos! Enjoy. Well, so I have been thinking about my goals and how a few months ago I felt overwhelmed about so many things I need to change. While watching General Conference I enjoyed a comment that I have always kept. President Monson stated that the only thing that is constant is change. I've discovered I love to experiment and try new things. For instance, I enjoy doing something different than I normally do if I am not getting the results that I want. A wise professor told my class "If you keep doing what you're doing, you're going to keep getting what you're getting" (Poduska). So true! I just appreciate Monson's words and that we should not be just content with things. I think we should actively keep changing, growing, and experiencing. The good news is, we are not expected to be perfect, and I am completely happy with the small changes in my life and giving myself credit for them. I think everyone should give themselves more credit for the small changes they make because you deserve it and Christ helps with that!!!!
